A contemplative garden with a hilly terrain
Description
We were faced with the task of developing a small plot with massive buildings while maintaining the purity of the lines. The clients, inspired by the Japanese art of tree shaping known as niwaki, wanted not just a garden, but a space for contemplation. We proposed using geoplastic techniques to balance the architectural volumes. The main landscape technique was the play with height differences.
Each tree occupies a special place on the lawn, becoming a dominant feature depending on the viewing angle. The graphic beauty of the niwaki is complemented by a minimalist frame of trimmed shrubs and ground cover plants. The gradual slope towards the fire pit creates the impression of a protected natural niche. This effect is further enhanced by the pine trees surrounding the bench and the granite steps that connect the area to the house and terrace.
The paving of the correct-shaped slabs echoes the geometry of the buildings. The roughness of the granite is contrasted by the smooth surface of the minimalist ponds. They work as blank canvases, reflecting the sky and creating a double depth of space.
Relaxing on the outdoor terrace of a country house is an invitation to wrap yourself up in the softest blanket. We have created a space that is perfect for this kind of activity: comfortable, with planters filled with mixes, and a living green roof.
The result of the work
The space we have created works according to the laws of the oriental garden: it doesn't shout, but whispers. Here, every element, from the curve of a hill to the silhouette of a niwaki, invites a dialogue without words. The garden seems to exist outside of time. There is no hustle and bustle, only a life that can be observed endlessly.
